Our Story
In the spring of 2020, the pandemic brought travel to a halt — and with it, Chris Anton's work as a retail liquidation consultant. Rather than sit still, Chris kept himself active and took on a part-time job at a local home improvement store to stay sharp and connected to the retail world.
It was there that something became impossible to ignore: customers were hungry for grilling gear, but the big box stores couldn't deliver. Limited assortments, undertrained staff, and zero passion for the craft. Big box stores, hardware stores — they all treated grills like appliances. Chris saw a real gap in the market and a genuine opportunity to do something better.
That frustration became The Grill Market.
In June 2020, Chris began developing the concept for what would become a true destination for grillers of every level — from the first-time backyard cook to the seasoned pitmaster. The Grill Market, LLC was officially certified by the state of South Carolina in August 2020.
Who We Are
The Grill Market is owned and operated by Chris M. Anton, Founder of The Grill Market. Chris brings over 40 years of retail industry experience across general management, district management, and retail operations — in both big box and non-profit retail — as well as financial consulting and liquidation expertise. He holds a degree in Business Administration and Psychology, and served with the US Navy as an Air Traffic Controller.
That combination of analytical thinking, leadership, and composure under pressure is baked into everything we do at The Grill Market.
We're based in Charleston SC and we're just getting started. Our goal is to grow into a prominent market position online— and expand to brick and mortar from there.
Our Vision
To be the first and only destination for the amateur griller to the seasoned professional pitmaster — for all their grilling, smoker, accessory, rub, and sauce needs. The backyard is sacred. Every adventure is an opportunity. We intend to honor both.
